US Global Health Diplomacy Office Created

A new Office of Global Health Diplomacy has been created by the US Department of State and will be led by US Global AIDS Ambassador Eric Goosby. Goosby elaborates on the task of the US Global Health Diplomacy Office in this excerpt from the announcement:

The task of the Office of Global Health Diplomacy is to guide diplomatic efforts to advance the United States’ global health mission to improve and save lives and foster sustainability through a shared global responsibility.

In a press release, the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) welcomed the creation of the new office and described its purpose:

The new office will provide guidance to US Ambassadors to more effectively support countries, to strengthen the sustainability of health programmes and to continue to promote a vision for shared responsibility and global solidarity.

Ambassador Goosby will continue to oversee the implementation of United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
