Seeing the World as a Network – Derek Kunaka

DerekbwDerek Kunaka is the Chief of Party for MEASURE Evaluation’s South Africa Associate Award, called Strategic Information for South Africa (SIFSA). He describes his leadership role as “creating an environment that allows my teammates to fully exploit their skills and talents.”

MEASURE Evaluation SIFSA works to strengthen the health information system in South Africa to support sustainable policy, planning, and programmatic decision making. Before coming to MEASURE, Dr. Kunaka worked on similar USAID-funded projects in South Africa, Lesotho, and Swaziland. He has pursued skills that apply in many fields, and previously worked in other sectors includingmining, manufacturing, insurance, and meat processing.

His wife, Tendayi Kunaka, is a banker with a passion for hair styles. She manages africanhairblog.com and a related twitter feed with nearly 3,000 followers. Derek and Tendayi have three children: a girl (Nodutenda, meaning “by faith”) and two boys (Munyaradzi, meaning “comforter”, and Mufaro, meaning “happiness”).
